Kentucky’s Medical Marijuana Program Now Live: Lexington’s First Dispensary Set to Open
After nearly three years of anticipation, Kentucky’s medical marijuana program has officially launched, and Lexington is getting its first taste of the new industry. Speakeasy Dispensary, located in Hamburg, is set to open its doors for a soft launch on January 15, making it the first medical cannabis retailer in Fayette County.
For those still catching up, here’s a rundown of what you need to know about getting a medical marijuana card and using products in Kentucky:
To qualify for a medical marijuana card, individuals must have a healthcare provider’s certification that they have one of several serious medical conditions. This requires a consultation with an authorized medical doctor or licensed nurse practitioner registered with the state program.
Since the state began issuing medical marijuana cards in January 2025, patients can now access a range of products to help manage their symptoms. With the launch of Lexington’s first dispensary, residents can expect to see a variety of products available, including edibles, topicals, and more.
