LeBron James’ Sports Agency Sues Cannabis Company Over Trademark Infringement
Klutch Sports Group, a sports management agency that represents NBA superstar LeBron James, has filed a lawsuit against Klutch Cannabis, a cannabis company based in Akron, Ohio, over alleged trademark infringement. The lawsuit claims that Klutch Cannabis has copied the branding of Klutch Sports Group, causing consumer confusion and financial harm.
According to the lawsuit, Klutch Cannabis has used a similar logo and font to Klutch Sports Group, which has been in use since 2012. The sports agency claims that it has suffered financial losses due to the cannabis company’s actions, and is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
Klutch Sports Group accused Klutch Cannabis of trademark infringement, unfair competition, and counterfeiting, among other violations. The sports agency also claimed that it has sent cease and desist letters to Klutch Cannabis on multiple occasions, but the cannabis company has failed to comply.
The lawsuit highlights the potential for consumer confusion between the two companies, citing examples of people who have mistakenly believed that Klutch Cannabis is affiliated with Klutch Sports Group. The sports agency also argued that the overlap between the sports and cannabis industries could exacerbate the problem.
Klutch Cannabis has not yet filed a response to the lawsuit, and a spokesperson for the company declined to comment. The case is being heard in federal court in Northern Ohio, with Judge J. Philip Calabrese presiding.
The dispute between the two companies is a significant one, as both are based in Northeast Ohio and have a strong presence in the region. Klutch Sports Group has a reputation for representing high-profile athletes, including LeBron James, while Klutch Cannabis has a growing network of dispensaries and a popular clothing line.
