Massachusetts Cannabis Laws Set for Major Overhaul
In a unanimous vote, the Massachusetts House of Representatives has approved a compromise bill aimed at modernizing the state’s cannabis industry. The legislation, which was passed on April 8, would significantly reform the state’s cannabis laws, including doubling the amount of cannabis adults can purchase or possess.
The bill, which was the result of a deal reached between the House and Senate, marks one of the largest reforms to the state’s cannabis industry since dispensaries first opened in 2018. The agreement was hailed as a “promising path forward for cannabis regulation in our Commonwealth” by Senator Adam Gómez and Representative Daniel M. Donahue.
The bill is expected to pass the Senate this week and will then be sent to Governor Maura Healey for signature. If signed, the legislation would bring significant changes to the state’s cannabis industry, including increased purchasing limits for adults and other reforms aimed at improving regulation and oversight.
The move comes after the House and Senate passed differing bills related to cannabis reform in 2025. The compromise bill represents a major step forward for the state’s cannabis industry and is expected to have a significant impact on the industry’s future.
