Ohio Sees Significant Revenue from Recreational Marijuana Sales
In the first five days of recreational marijuana sales, Ohio dispensaries have generated over $11.5 million in revenue. According to the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control, dispensaries across the state processed 138,466 receipts from August 6 to August 10. This marks a significant economic impact for the state, with sales totaling over $11.5 million in flower, vape pods, edibles, and other cannabis products.
In addition to recreational sales, medical patients also spent $1.9 million on products during the same period. Ohio adults aged 21 and over are allowed to purchase up to 2.5 ounces of flower and up to nearly 0.5 ounces of extracts per day.
The legalization of recreational marijuana in Ohio was approved by voters in November 2023. Since then, the state has been preparing for the launch of recreational sales. The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control has been working to issue certificates of operation to dispensaries, allowing them to begin selling recreational products.
As recreational marijuana sales continue to grow, Ohio is expected to see a significant economic impact. The state’s decision to legalize recreational marijuana has been seen as a major step forward in terms of economic development and job creation. With the revenue generated from recreational sales, Ohio is expected to see a significant increase in tax revenue, which can be used to fund various state programs and services.
